Carrai National Park

Highlights:
Carrai National Park conserves parts of the Carrai plateau, a huge granite area surrounded by steep escarpments that drop to Kunderang Brook and the Macleay River.

Activities:
This park provides 4WD access to the scenic Mary's View lookout on the eastern side of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Experienced bushwalkers can enjoy areas with great views across the Macleay River valley and explore large areas of tall eucalypt forest and rainforest.

Access:
90 kilometres west of Kempsey on the remote, unpaved Carrai and Coachwood roads via Kookaburra (4WD essential).

Accommodation in the park

Kookaburra Hut (6 people maximum)

This bush hut is in a beautiful location, but the accommodation is very basic. The hut has six single beds, a two-burner gas cooker, flush toilet and shower. Tank water is available, but you'll need to take all your own supplies and equipment, including firewood, linen, cooking implements, cutlery and crockery.

Things to do: Kookaburra Hut's remote location makes it an ideal spot for self-reliant bushwalkers, birdwatchers and anyone who likes getting away from it all.

Access: The route includes unsealed roads; 4WD required.

Fees: The hut costs $38.50 to rent for 1-3 nights, and $77 for 4-7 nights.
